COMPANY
“Kiber” means “ship’s rudder”
in Greek.
Our company name embodies our desire to be a good helmsman for our customers.
The projects we help with are not limited to achieving the goal, but also the process and outcome up to that result are questioned.
Our job is to listen to your requests from the customer’s perspective, consider how to realize the project, and then create something that is efficient, effective, and can be reliably shaped.
Please feel free to launch your project. And please, leave the steering to Kiber.
INTERVIEW
Within a limited time,
We are constantly thinking about how to fulfill our customers’ true needs.
── Looking back on what motivated you to start Kiber and your memories from that time, what stands out to you?
It wasn’t so much a trigger, but when I thought about what our clients really wanted from us project managers, I wanted to spend more time with them, meet their needs, and devote my time to how to proceed with the project. The trigger was that I strongly felt that I couldn’t do that as a company employee.
At the time, as an employee, I had to spend time on internal meetings and administrative procedures in addition to each project management task, and I often wondered if I could spend more time for the customer, so I often had discussions within the company. Now I think I was bothering the people at the company at the time.
── How are the visions and philosophies that you had when you started the company being realized today?
As the trigger suggests, we are constantly thinking about how to fulfill our customers’ true needs within a limited time. We are trying to streamline internal meetings and administrative procedures as much as possible, increase the amount of time that staff actually visit and interact with customers, communicate closely with customers, and make sure that we are adequately checking whether we are meeting their needs, and we are telling our staff to value these basic things.
── What are the most memorable events or turning points in the past 20 years?
Thankfully, we have always been helped by our customers and partner companies, including during the Lehman shock and the Corona crisis, so we have never faced a crisis that threatened the survival of the company.
However, due to the nature of our business, projects end on a project basis, so for the first few years after our establishment, we continued to be in a situation where we couldn’t see six months ahead. Looking back now, I think it was after more than 10 years that the company’s creditworthiness increased and we were able to be entrusted with certain long-term projects. I am keenly aware that it is important to continue, to receive requests and trust from our customers, and to maintain the company’s performance.
By continuing to do so, we have continued to maintain our customers’ trust and performance.
“Mr. Takayama” instead of “President.”
Watch, absorb, and incorporate into yourself
── How do you think Kiber’s corporate culture and ethos have been nurtured?
By nature, I am not the type to scold or encourage employees. I go to meetings with them and have them see how I interact with customers and what kind of reactions and responses customers have to me, and if there is anything they can learn, they can absorb it and incorporate it into themselves, and that’s fine with me.
── What do you value in your relationships with employees and in building your organization?
We are expanding the authority that can be judged at the manager level as much as possible. I try to communicate a lot with employees, have them call me Takayama instead of President, including young staff, and keep the distance between employees close.

── What do you think are Kiber’s strengths and differences from other companies?
I think it all comes down to the fact that we have been providing flexible and prompt responses to meet the needs of our customers and have been managing office construction projects in various industries for 20 years. Thanks to the track record we have built over the past 20 years, we have also been able to handle factory construction projects and new office building interior management work in addition to office construction, and I believe that we are steadily expanding our business.
── I think the market environment and customer needs have changed significantly, but how have you responded to these changes?
To be honest, we haven’t consciously taken any specific actions in response to societal changes. Since our founding, we’ve focused on addressing the challenges our clients face and understanding what they truly want in each project. This approach may have, in turn, allowed us to adapt to shifts in the market environment and the evolving needs of each client.
For 20 years, we’ve focused on addressing our customers’ genuine concerns.
My greatest reward is knowing our customers feel they made the right choice in entrusting Kiber with their needs.
── Looking ahead to the next decade and beyond, what kind of future do you envision for Kiber?
From the beginning, I’ve never once thought about expanding the business or growing the company larger. My vision has always remained the same: my sense of fulfillment comes from delivering projects that meet our clients’ needs and making them feel confident they made the right choice in entrusting Kiber with their work.
I want our staff to find their own sense of purpose in projects by building trusting relationships with clients. That’s what it comes down to. This builds confidence in each staff member, conveys Kiber’s commitment to clients and project stakeholders, and leads to the next project.
If Kiber grows through this chain of shared purpose, nothing could make me happier.
